Simplicity is a Sin

Ever since I began to think about what I wanted to do as a career (or as referred to by adults when I was a child “to do for the rest of your life”) I always had one goal in mind… keep it simple. I loved the idea of a 9 to 5 job, receiving a moderately decent pay, coming home to my house in the suburbs and enjoying the company of my wife, 2.5 kids (chilling image when you think about it in the literal sense) and some sort of pet (I like animals lol). In other words, I want to live a comfortable life. As I get older, actually work in the “real world” and began to ”grow” through the years of high school, CCRI, and now Bryant, I have come to the conclusion that the simple life is simply impossible.

According to the US Census Bureau, The median household income in the United States is $46,326. While Dual earner households have a higher median income at $67,348. So what does that mean? In order to achieve a “simple lilfe”, you alone must be making (roughly before tax) $24/hour. That number is completely up to you to make, but do you actually need it?

Can a person live a simple life withouth making a median national income? Can you measure simplicity in the terms of comfort for yourself against everyone else? Of course! Through success!

But wait…

What is success? Is becoming a CEO of McDonald’s considered success? Or is becoming an employee at McDonald’s considered success? Can success truly be measured? Or can it only be defined by the eyes of the person who feels the success.

Life, Success, Simplicity all have one thing in common. Subjectivity.

Keep your head up, your mind right, and strive for comfort, happiness, and the purity that is simplicity. Only you can measure it, only you can feel it. Strive and work hard to achieve your true euphoria.
